Grease Trap Pumping
Pumping is the part of grease trap service that removes the waste itself. A vacuum truck draws out the floating grease, the gray water and the solids at the bottom, then carries the load to an approved receiving facility.

The technician opens the lid, lowers a suction hose and draws the contents into a sealed tank on the truck. Thick grease mats are broken up so they flow, and the hose is worked into each compartment so solids in the corners come out too.
Small under-sink traps can often be serviced with a portable unit or a short hose run, while larger in-ground traps need the full truck parked close to the access point.
- Sealed vacuum tank, no open buckets
- Every compartment drawn down
- Solids broken up and removed
- Load hauled under a manifest

Grease trap waste is a regulated liquid waste. It travels under a multi-part manifest, sometimes called a trip ticket, that follows the load from your kitchen to the disposal or processing site. Your signed copy is your proof that the trap was serviced and the waste was handled legally.

Many programs use a rule of thumb that the trap should be pumped before grease and solids together fill about a quarter of its depth, with a maximum number of days between visits. Busy fryer kitchens often need service far more often than a café that mostly reheats food. A few measured visits will show your real loading rate.
